Foreign manipulation campaigns on social media can be spotted by looking at clues in the timing and length of posts and the URLs they contain. Scientists focused on troll posts made on Twitter between December 2015 and December 2018 and on Reddit between July 2015 and December 2016.

According to a new report released Monday in PNAS, Russian "troll" accounts don't actually cause Americans to change their politics, at least when it comes to Twitter users. Researchers suggest this is likely because people who interact with these accounts most are already highly polarized.
