TIL in 2003 two Iron Age bodies were discovered in a peat bog in Ireland. One stood 6 foot 6 inches tall and had manicured fingernails while the other had hair styled with hair gel. Both had been brutally murdered.

TIL War for the Spartans was in some ways a respite from the strict schedule of their everyday lives and was almost seen as a holiday. Physical exercise was less rigorous, they were allowed a regimen less rigid and in the afternoons, they held competitions, sang hymns and recited poetry.

TIL that Nero didn't play a fiddle while Rome burned in 64 A.D., bowed string instruments wouldn't appear in Europe for another 800 years. However several sources place Nero on the roof of his palace during the fire, dressed in stage garb and singing from the Greek epic “The Sack of Ilium.”

TIL The Ancient Romans held mock sea battles known as naumachia for entertainment. In some cases, whole amphitheaters like the coloseum would be flooded and the ship battles would take place within them while spectators would watch from their seats.
