TIL alligators are scared of humans and it's usually safe to swim in most alligator infested waters. A 2010 report tallied all the reported alligator attacks over the 81 years from 1928 to 2009. It found there were only 24 deaths from alligators in the United States, most of them in Florida.

TIL grad students in the Netherlands have created lab-grown venom glands from 9 species of snake embryos: 1mm long white blobs that produced venom in a petri dish. It paves the way for creating antivenom without milking adult snakes for venom and without injecting into a horse to produce antibodies.

TIL It is a popular myth that a komodo dragon's bite causes death because the mouth of a komodo dragon is so filthy that the bitten animal ultimately dies of a bacterial infection. In fact, a komodo dragon's mouth is just as clean as most animals and it instead relies on venom to hunt prey.
