TIL in the movie Full Metal Jacket, the actor that played Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (R. Lee Ermey) came up with 150 pages of insults on his own. Also the actor that originally was playing the role couldn't yell more than 30 minutes, but when Ermey stepped in and took over, his energy never let up.

TIL about Sgt. Siwash, the beer drinking duck who fought with the Marines in WWII, and received citations for battling a Japanese rooster. Siwash passed away in 1954 due to liver disease and their wake was held in a Chicago taxidermists shop.

TIL that during World War I, a series of wolf attacks made Russian and German soldiers team up to fight wolves. After seeing wolves attack wounded soldiers and children, the commanders on both sides signed a temporary armistice, and killed hundreds of wolves. They then resumed fighting each other.
