TIL The first attempt to make an anti-Nazi film in America was Herman J Mankiewicz's "The Mad Dog of Europe" in 1933. The film floundered in early production and was ultimately never produced because no studio would risk being banned in Germany.

TIL about Sgt. Siwash, the beer drinking duck who fought with the Marines in WWII, and received citations for battling a Japanese rooster. Siwash passed away in 1954 due to liver disease and their wake was held in a Chicago taxidermists shop.

TIL one typo lead to the hire of a Geoffrey Tandy, a seaweed expert (cryptogamist) instead of a codebreaker (cryptogramist) during WW2, but the help of the seaweed expert accelerated the end of the war by 2 to 4 yrs saving millions of lives in the process
